TRIPURA'S annual plan for 2005-06 has been fixed at Rs 804 crore against the current fiscal approved outlay of Rs 700.27 crore. This was decided here at a meeting between the State Chief Minister, Mr Manik Sarkar, and the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Dr Ahluwalia complimented the State for improved financial performance, but said agricultural activities in the State should be diversified and bamboo cane craft should be taken up in a big way. The State Chief Minister briefed the Plan panel about the various initiatives being undertaken by his Government. He raised the issue of telephone connectivity especially mobile services, besides seeking compensation for conserving forest cover as more than 60 per cent area of the State has forest cover.
Later in the evening, the Plan panel also determined the annual plan outlay of Jharkhand for 2005-06 at a meeting between the State Chief Minister Mr Arjun Munda and the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman. Jharkhand's annual plan outlay for next fiscal is pegged at Rs 4,510 crore, against the current fiscal's approved outlay of Rs 4110.19 crore.
The Plan panel Deputy Chairman urged the State to plan optimum utilisation of the natural resources, besides underscoring the need to utilise groundwater for minor irrigation in view of its huge storage capacity in the State. Mr Munda in turn briefed the Plan panel about the State's performance in various sectors and said because of poor rail and air links in the State, foreign investors shy away from investing in the State. He also demanded the Planning Commission to include some of the irrigation schemes of the State under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIPB).
