Politics Talks with Maoists will continue: YSR Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Dec. 2 THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said the State Government would continue to hold talks with CPI (Maoists) as the endeavour was to arrive at a permanent solution to the problem. He, however, asked the officials not to be lax in maintaining law and order. Incidents of arson, extortion or violence by Maoists and carrying of arms by private persons should be dealt with as per the law. "There is no confusion in this aspect. Maintaining law and order is your job. Let there not be a feeling that there is laxity in administration," the Chief Minister said while inaugurating a two-day conference of district Collectors here on Thursday. He asked the Collectors to make all efforts to provide a CARING (committed, accountable, responsive, inspiring, nationalistic and genuine) government to the people. There should be transparency in administration. The officials should try to solve the problems brought to their notice by people's representatives. Though the priorities of his Government were agriculture, irrigation, animal husbandry and rural development, Dr Reddy said care should be taken not to neglect any other sector. The Government's aim was to achieve all-round development of the State. He wanted the Collectors to lay emphasis on acquisition of land for irrigation projects and in providing relief and rehabilitation to the displaced people. Dr Reddy said he was for total decentralisation of power in the State. Collectors should take innovative initiatives. The initiatives should be in the interest of the Government and the people. He would not mind if there were certain lapses in the implementation if the initiative was made in the larger interest of the people and the State. The Chief Minister had also asked the officials to take criticism by newspapers in the right perspective. He, however, told them not to bother about what was written by certain newspapers that were bent upon criticising the Government without any basis and on false grounds. "If necessary, we will take legal action against such papers," he said.
