Govt to set up IMG for IA's fleet acquisition plan

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 2

THE 43 Airbus aircraft fleet acquisition programme of Indian Airlines (IA) is all set to move yet another step forward with the official inter-ministerial price negotiating committee scheduled to be set up shortly.

The Government will also ask IA to set up a committee of its own which will report to the inter-ministerial group (IMG), senior Government officials said.

"The Government wants to ensure that the best possible price is available to IA. All attempts are being made in this direction," official sources said.

A formal intimation of the PIB decision in favour of the acquisition has now reached the Aviation Ministry.

The proposal will also have to be cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and no date has yet been fixed for the meeting.
