Security Logistics - Airlines HAL to showcase its wares for Putin Our Bureau
Bangalore , Dec. 4 HINDUSTAN Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) will line up its newly developed fighter aircraft, including the first Sukhoi 30 Mk1 that it assembled for the Indian Air Force (IAF), when the Russian President, Mr Vladimir Putin, visits its Bangalore complex here on Sunday, according to official sources. Russia is a major technology partner in many of HAL's projects such as Su-30 and Mr Putin is the first Russian President to visit Bangalore or the HAL facilities. HAL has planned a flight demonstration of its light combat aircraft, the advanced light helicopter `Dhruv' and the intermediate jet trainer. The Su-30, assembled at Nashik under a major Indo-Russian defence collaboration, will be on static display. Apart from the ongoing Su-30 project and a proposed upgradation of the IAF's MiG fighters, HAL and three Russian companies have their joint venture, Indo-Russian Aviation Ltd. The Nashik-based IRAL was set up over nine years ago to mainly support maintenance of all fleets of Russian origin such as the MiG fighters. The two countries also have plans to work together on a mid-sized multi-role transport aircraft. Mr Putin, in Bangalore from Saturday evening, is scheduled to fly home after his HAL visit, which is expected to last under an hour.
