BHEL(Tiruchi) ancillary units urged to diversify

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Dec. 5

THE ancillary units of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) at Tiruchi should try to emerge as product designers and manufacturers and gear themselves for on-site fabrication of materials as they have the potential to emerge as a centre of excellence in fabrication, capable of achieving a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore, BHEL Executive Director, Mr A.K. Mathur, has said.

Speaking at the `Quality Month' celebrations of BHEL Small-Scale Industries Association (BHELSSIA) at Tiruchi recently, Mr Mathur observed that with the emergence of a real threat from the Chinese power plant equipment manufacturers, margins have been getting thinner and a need has arisen to cut costs.

The ancillary units, therefore, he suggested, should diversify into value-added products.
