Shwaas Foundation gets Rs 21 lakh from Goa Govt

THE Goa Government has contributed Rs 21 lakh to Shwaas Foundation to support the screening of the Marathi film, Shwass.

The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, handed over a cheque of Rs 21 lakh to Mr Arun Nalavade, producer of the film. This film, which portrays the story of an elderly man who brings his seven-year-old grandson to a city before the youngster loses his eyesight, has been nominated for Academy Award.

Shwaas has bagged in all 31 different awards for excellence in film, for the year 2004. This includes the national award for best Indian film, which is the `Golden Lotus Award'. The Film Federation of India has also selected Shwaas as India's official entry for the 77th Academy Awards. The film is directed by Mr Sandeep Sawant.

The Maharashtra Government has contributed Rs 21 lakh towards the promotion of the film ahead of the Academy Awards. Mega star Mr Amitabh Bachchan has also made a contribution of Rs 1 lakh.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and some other members of the Indian cricket team have also raised funds through an auction of T-shirts, bats, stumps and balls.
