FICCI, UN body to work towards development programmes

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 6

THE Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to work towards a hunger-free country through joint programmes and awareness campaigns involving the corporate sector.

The MoU was signed by the FICCI Secretary-General, Dr Amit Mitra, and the WFP Executive Director, Mr James T. Morris.

To help meet the objectives of the MoU, FICCI and WFP will appoint a joint project committee, with representatives from each of the two organisations, and would among other things explore the possibilities for joint collaboration between the private sector and the WFP.

Further, the projects identified by the committee will work towards improving access to education and reducing gender disparity in access to education and skills training. It would also help in improving the efficiency and the delivery of various social services in the areas of education, nutrition and health; using food as a tool for social development.
