Govt keen on rating of hospitals, spas

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 7

THE Government intends to put in place a system for rating of hospitals, spas and ayurvedic massage centres, the Minister of State for Tourism, Ms Renuka Choudhury, said here on Tuesday.

Such a system, which may be on the lines of the rating system for star hotels, would help promote health tourism, Ms Choudhury told reporters on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit (IES).

"As in the case of hotels, the rating system will give an idea about the quality of services to be expected from the hospitals and spas as well as help in raising standards," Ms Choudhury said.

She said that a Task Force in the Tourism Ministry had already formulated a model to be adopted and would table its report in a couple of weeks.

In her address at the IES, Ms Choudhury held that tourism should be included in the concurrent list. This will give a new impetus to the development of this sector, she said.
