Five SEZ proposals under Govt scrutiny

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 7

THE Centre is currently examining the applications for five new special economic zones (SEZs) in the country, the Commerce Secretary, Mr S.N. Menon, said here on Tuesday.

Approvals have already been granted for 33 SEZs since the introduction of the Government policy for such zones.

"Of the five applications, one is from Wipro for a SEZ at Salt Lake in West Bengal and two are from Pondicherry (auto-components and information technology). There is also an application for a SEZ at Bangalore", Mr Menon told reporters on the sidelines of India Economic Summit (IES) here.
