Godrej rolls out agri-stores

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 7

GODREJ Industries is currently testing the concept of agri-stores, which serve as one-stop shops/retail outlets for farmers. "At present we only have about 3-4 such stores, called Adhaar, in Maharashtra. However, depending on the response, we may expand the number of stores," Mr Nadir Godrej, Managing Director, Godrej Industries said on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit held at the Capital on Tuesday.

The stores in addition to selling agricultural products such as fertilisers, also provides the farmer knowledge on how to effectively utilise these products. "However, we are not charging for these services at present," Mr Godrej said.

Recent months have seen a number of corporate bodies including ITC, Escorts, and Tata Chemicals (with Tata Kisan Sansar) set up agri-stores to provide products/services targeted at the farmer in order to tap the vast rural market.
