United Bank to relocate branches in Kolkata

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Dec. 7

UNITED Bank of India (UBI) has proposed to re-work its branch network here by shifting some branches and opening a few others.

The bank has decided to move six of its Kolkata metropolitan branches from their present premises to new and nearby locations. The new locations are said to command greater business potential. The branches are Bhowanipur, Topsia, Mayfair, Cossipur, SAA Avenue and Beliaghata.

UBI has further proposed to open as many as eleven outlets within the city, including a few in areas that are emerging fast in terms of profile. This will be done by merging the eleven existing branches where business did not grow in the desired manner over the past several years. The mergers will be conducted in a manner that does not create any major inconvenience to customers and employees, the bank has pointed out.

UBI, a press release issued here has stated, has recorded a business growth of 11.85 per cent in six months, between March 31 and September 30 this year. Its total business increased from Rs 30,240 crore to Rs 33,822 crore during this period. The bank, which has already received permission to open a new branch at Sankrail in Howrah, has tried to involve the representatives of employees in the proposed changes.
