1.54 m new mobile users in November

MOBILE subscriber base increased by 1.54 million users in November, taking the total to 46 million, according to data released by Cellular Association of India.

Of this 1.14 million subscribers have been added by GSM-based operators while operators using the CDMA have added about 3.7 lakh new users during the month.

The biggest gainer in November was BSNL, which added 3.59 lakh mobile subscribers to take its tally to 8.1 million subscribers. Bharti Tele-Ventures added 3.53 lakh users to touch 9.4 million. Reliance Infocomm, which is the largest mobile operator in the country with 9.8 million users, added 3.4 lakh subscribers.

On the fixed line segment, 0.25 million new users were added which were mostly WLL(fixed) subscribers. With this, the total fixed line subscriber base has reached 44.31 million. The gross subscriber base, consisting of both fixed as well as mobile, has touched 90.3 million, resulting in a tele-density of 8.40.

In terms of circles, Delhi continues to be the hot spot, with 4.8 million mobile users followed by Mumbai at 3.4 million users. But Circle `A' States, comprising Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, have more mobile users compared to all the four metro cities, at 13 million and 9.9 million, respectively.
