Infrastructure `Chennai fares better in IT infrastructure' Our Bureau
Chennai , Dec. 9 WITH better infrastructure and skilled work force, Chennai fares better than Bangalore in attracting new investments in back office and BPO, according to Mr Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom."Bangalore is overheated, and the infrastructure there has not kept the pace of the growth in the information technology sector,'' he said. Chennai's value proposition is good, and the city is poised to become a major hub for back office and BPO firms. According to Mr Karnik, Bangalore's infrastructure was facing severe constraints and Chennai should take advantage of this. In Chennai, the gap between information technology requirement and supply is narrow. There is a gap, however, it is small. The State Government should make sure the city does not face space and infrastructure constraints in future, even as more IT companies are planning to set up their development centres in the city, he said. The Tamil Nadu IT Secretary, Mr Vivek Harinarain, said that with 5 million sq ft space coming up in Chennai, space would not be a constraint.
