Purdue varsity chief in Bangalore to meet alumni

THE President of Purdue University has visited India covering the three cities of Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi to meet with the alumni and the parents of current students.

Purdue is one of the largest universities in the US, with more than 69,000 students. With its main campus at West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue also has 11 statewide locations. Its alumni include 22 astronauts, including Mr Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, and Mr Eugene Cernan, the last man to do so.

"Our Indian students, alumni and faculty are leaders on the world stage," said Mr Martin C. Jischke, President of Purdue. "I am looking forward very eagerly to this opportunity to reach out and thank the people of India for sending us its students and to look for ways we can expand our relationship," he said.

The Indian alumni of Purdue include Mr Venu Srinivasan, CEO of TVS Motor Company, Mr Ravi Venkatesan, Chairman of Microsoft India, Mr Sowmyanarayanan Sadagopan, Director of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, and Mr G.V. Prasad, Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO of Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd.
