Human Resources Subex Systems unveils alumni plan Anjali Prayag
Bangalore , Dec. 9 FOR Bangalore-based Subex Systems, being an acquisitive and a product-centric company creates unique challenges in the HR area. Mr Sudeesh Yezhuvath, Chief Operating Officer of the company says, "It's difficult to get readymade talent to match our needs and we have to invest a lot in talent and development." Moreover, the company has realised much better dividends from freshers as they come minus the baggage of a past job. Subex Systems has a current strength of 214 people, adding close to 50 people every year. "In recruitment, it's not the numbers that drive us but the quality of talent," according to Mr Yezhuvath. Acquisitions have presented interesting diversity facets for the company. The company already has 20 non-Indians from countries such as China, the US, the UK and Cyprus. When Subex recently acquired a division of Lightbridge Inc, a US-based company, local employees in the US expressed concerns about an Indian company taking over their operations. The company addressed employee apprehensions by having an integration camp in India. "We realised that open communication plays a very important role here and wanted to show them that we are a true trans-national company," says Mr Yezhuvath. In order to help its employees network better, Subex has launched an alumni initiative. In fact, ex-employees of Subex are even part of the referral programme in the company's recruitment process. "We encourage our former employees to give references when we need to hire laterally, and if successful they even get paid for it." Currently the company's alumni association has 120 people. "They are constantly updated on what's happening in the company. After all they were responsible for the growth of the company and we want to acknowledge that," he says.
