New Delhi , Dec. 9

THE annual Plan for Delhi for the next fiscal has been fixed at Rs 5,100 crore here at a meeting between the Chief Minister, Ms Sheila Dikshit, and the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

In his remarks, Dr Ahluwalia lauded the State for its performance in urban reforms but felt that much more needs to be done in developing Delhi's infrastructure. He suggested medium-term measures to abate pollution in the Yamuna River and emphasised the need for further monitoring of power reforms after the initiative for privatisation.

Responding to the Chief Minister's plea for special assistance for the Commonwealth Games in 2010 to create infrastructure, he asked the State Government to put up project proposal for the consideration of the Plan panel.

Briefing the Plan panel of the initiatives taken by her Government in various fields, the Chief Minister said the construction of elevated roads, three corridors of ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminal) connecting Delhi with Sahibabad-Ghaziabad-Gurgaon and new ISBT at Dwarka are some of the priority projects.

She said a new power generation project at Bawana (1000 MW) and Pragati-II (330 MW) would be set up. Besides, restructuring of the Delhi Transport Corporation and Delhi Jal Board has been planned.

Ms Dikshit also informed the Planning Commission that a three-member committee is being set up to look into the deficiencies in the power privatisation programme and legislation to regulate ground water extractions would be introduced very soon.
