8 pc growth sustainable: Chidambaram

THE Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, on Friday said attaining an economic growth rate of 7-8 per cent and sustaining it for 10 years is not an impossible task.

"We have to climb the ladder and stay there," he said at a book release function here, adding that growth alone can abolish poverty from India.

He stressed on the speedy implementation of economic policies in order to achieve the desired growth.

Mr Chidambaram added that the fundamentals of the economy were sound, with healthy forex reserves, strong rupee, a booming stock market and good FDI and FII flows.
