Award for excellence in business journalism

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Dec. 11

Mr C.R.L. Narasimhan, Business Editor of The Hindu, has been awarded the `Excellence in Business Journalism Award for the year 2003-04' by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI) here.

The ABCI is a 49-year-old apolitical organisation, formerly known as the `Association of Industrial Editors of India.' Mr Narasimhan is the first recipient of this award.

The citation said: "Among Mr Narasimhan's many articles which have been appreciated by the industry and financial markets is a recent one devoted to inflation and interest rates, written after his meeting with the Reserve Bank of India Governor, Dr Y. V. Reddy. This article can fairly be said to have had a dramatic effect on India's financial scene... ''

``Leaders in financial markets and industry have always sought Mr Narasimhan's help in understanding the nitty-gritty of the financial world. In this context, we must make special mention of the fact that he was one of the few top financial journalists who were invited for a hearing by the Joint Parliamentary Committee constituted to inquire into the stock market scam involving Ketan Parekh in the early 2000s," it said.

A post-graduate in economics from Madras University, Mr Narasimhan worked with State Bank of India, in India and abroad for over two decades before he joined The Hindu as a Deputy Editor in December 1993.
