Railways freight traffic up in Nov

INDIAN Railways carried 48.61 million tonnes of revenue earning freight during November, up from 46.98 mt of freight carried during the corresponding month last year.

For the eight months ended November, Railways carried 383.81 mt of revenue earning freight compared with 358.27 mt of such freight during the corresponding period of the previous year. The target of 377.21 mt for the period was exceeded by 6.60 mt, informed an official release.

The annual freight target for the current fiscal is 580 mt, which is likely to be exceeded given the buoyancy in the core sector of the national economy.
