Land acquisition for Kerala roads

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Works Minister, Dr M. K. Muneer, has said that the State Government will institute a fast track system for acquisition of land required for the development of important roads, including National Highways.

The Minister told reporters here that the Public Works Department had already completed the acquisition of 639.42 hectares of land for the Cherthala-Thiruvananthapuram four-lane project. The Edapally-Thalappadi (Kasaragod) highway has been marked for conversion into a four-lane road.

Another 182 hectares had been acquired along a stretch from Thalappadi to Bekal Fort. The Department already has in its possession 45 hectares of the 90 hectares of land required for the Bekal Fort-Cheruvathur stretch and 60 hectares needed for the Cheruvathur- Pilathara stretch.

Similarly, it possesses 300 hectares of the 400 hectares of land needed for the Kozhikode-Paravur stretch and 57 hectares for the Paravur-Edapally stretch.
