TN Chamber fair to focus on indigenous products

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Dec. 14

THE trade and industry fairs in the city seek to provide more than just maximum exposure and market for indigenous products. They are now more value-added with focus and guidance into the future.

The eighth `Chamber Trade Fair 2005' for 18 days, organised by the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry between December17 and January 3 at Tamukkam grounds seeks to be a `Gateway to international trade'.

The chamber President, Mr S. Rethinavelu, speaking to presspersons here today, said the exhibition with more than 300 stalls would seek to dispel the misconception that indigenous products suffer in quality compared to foreign goods. Existing entrepreneurs are reluctant to go in for any expansion and prospective entrepreneurs are hesitant to start new industrial units. This scenario will harm the industrial sector. The seminars organised during the exhibition will provide necessary information on utilising new opportunities under globalisation, marketing products and understand consumer preferences.

Seven seminars have been organised during the period on Launching and augmenting export business; Role of family members in business; Investment opportunities in herbal & buyer-seller meet; Approaches for business expansion and diversification; Franchise business opportunities; Use of computer and Internet in business; and Promotion of entrepreneurship in rural area. The faculty has been drawn from all over India, he added.

He said that an exclusive stall for casting vote through Web site in favour of Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple as one of the `New 7 Wonders of World' has been arranged at a concessional cost.
