THE Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), in collaboration with bioinformatics company BioMantra, has launched a software tool suited for vaccine design called `VaxiPred.' IMTECH is a Chandigarh-based, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) constituent laboratory, whereas BioMantra is a bioinformatics company with about 18 officials.
VaxiPred will be available to users as a subscription-based Web service. "Internationally, the software product would be priced at $10,000-12,000 per annum for any number of users. However, for the Indian users and for CSIR laboratories, the product would be priced at phenomenally lower levels," said THE BioMantra's CEO, Ms Madhulika Tripathi.
Ms Tripathi declined to divulge the Indian price at present, since it is "being finalised." Launching the software tool, the Director-General of CSIR, Dr R.A. Mashelkar, pointed out the need to have more Government-private partnerships.
"This software tool is an integrated version of 14 different best available software tools developed by IMTECH for discovering antigens of the disease causing pathogens," informed IMTECH's Head of Bioinformatics Centre, Dr G.P.S. Raghava.
