Outlook Cadila to focus on cardiovascular, gastroenteritis segments Our Bureau
New Delhi , Dec. 19 CADILA Pharmaceuticals Ltd is planning to focus on cardiovascular and gastroenteritis segments to grow its business. Speaking to newspersons, Mr J.P Parswani, Vice-President, Marketing, Cadila, said, "We have a strong product line in these two segments and we hope to launch more products next year." Currently, the cardiovascular segment contributes Rs 50 crore, while gastroenteritis contributes about Rs 70 crore to the company's turnover. Nodon (generic name Nebivolol), belonging to the beta-blocker group of drugs used by patients for management of hypertension, coronary artery disease and heart failure, contributes just Rs 4 crore, which is expected to grow at least five times next year. Envas, another blood pressure drug, is the most widely prescribed drug. After the launch of Nodon last year, trials were conducted on 2,128 senior patients with heart failure in over 10 European countries. Even when Nodon was added to other conventional drugs, there was a significant and dramatic reduction in mortality. Meanwhile, Cadila feels that the product patent regime that is expected to come into effect from next year will not have a major impact in the near future. The company currently holds over six patents and has some applications pending in the Mail Box facility.
