Blockade plan at Kochi port called off

THE proposed blockade agitation, by the CITU unions in Willingdon Island on Monday in connection with employment of steamer watchmen in Kochi port has been called offfollowing the assurance given by the Cochin Steamer Agents Association to sort out the issue within a month's time.

Mr M. Cyril C. Goerge, Secretary of the port, along with the Traffic Manager and Deputy Conservator, has initiated discussion with Cochin Steamer Agents' Association as well as Steamer Watchmen Samara Sahaya Samithi.

Meanwhile, Mr K. Chandran Pillai and Mr Sebastian Paul, the two members ofParliament representing Kerala, have urged the Union Shipping Minister to instruct the port authorities to desist from any anti-worker policies and take urgent measures to reinstate the steamer watchmen in service.
