New Delhi , Dec. 20 THE marketing of the proposed greenfield airport project near Hyderabad has already begun, much ahead of the completion of the first phase (scheduled for 2008). "We have started marketing efforts for the new airport and introduced it to various international airlines at the International Routes Conference held in Spain recently," said Mr Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Managing Director of Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (HIAL), hours before signing the concession agreement for the airport project. The concession agreement is to be signed between HIAL and the Central Government. The Union Cabinet had approved the draft concession agreement for the airport project last week, thereby facilitating the construction of the proposed greenfield airport. The financial closure for the project is expected during the second half of next year, and the airport should become operational within 36 months of the financial closure. The project is a joint venture between GMR Infrastructure Ltd and Malaysia Airports Holding Berhard along with the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Airports Authority of India (AAI). The HIAL MD also said that the project would be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) framework in line with international standards.
