Kite festival in Mangalore on Jan 23

Our Bureau

Mangalore , Dec. 20

`TEAM Mangalore', which organised kite festivals in Mangalore in the past, will organise an international kite festival at Panambur beach here on January 23.

A press release by Mr Sarvesh Rao, Coordinator of `Team Mangalore', said here that while international kite festivals are a regular feature in northern India, it is a rarity in peninsular India. Keeping this in mind, `Team Mangalore' will be organising the first ever international kite festival in Karnataka - `ONGC-MRPL International Kite Festival 2005' — at Panambur beach in Mangalore on January 23.

The organisers have received confirmation from teams in the US, Australia, France, the UK, Brazil and Denmark. Many more have shown interest, he said.

Mr Rao said Mangalore would become the fifth venue to host an international festival of this kind in India. International festivals are held in Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, coinciding with the Makarasankranti festival. Apart from these venues, the festival is also held at Silvasa.
