Railways Expensing of stock options Rlys saves Rs 73 cr on energy thru' efficient means Our Bureau
New Delhi , Dec. 21 BY adopting various methods to optimise the usage in its operations, the Indian Railways has saved energy worth about Rs 73 crore this year, a seminar held here by the Northern Railway pointed out. The energy bill of the Railways constituted 17 per cent of its total working expenses, informs an official release. The energy saving moves included the adoption of incandescent tube lights in trains and various installations, installed timers for efficient use of day-lighting and solar heating. Additionally, the Railways also adopted better energy efficiency kits, which enabled in reducing fuel usage. Other technological improvements included the use of regenerative braking and microprocessor-based energy-cum-speed recording system in locos.
