Mangalore , Dec. 22

BIRLA Sun Life Insurance (BSLI) wants to sell 20 to 25 per cent of the total policies in the semi-urban and rural market in the next 18 months, according to its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Nani Javeri.

In an informal chat with Business Line here, he said the company is selling around 15 per cent of the total polices in rural and semi-urban market.

He said the company has a rural business cell, and its branches were expected to help it achieve higher penetration in rural areas. The distribution strategy followed by the BSLI in its rural marketing seeks to leverage the strength and reach of the Aditya Birla group and the goodwill of non-governmental organisations doing quality work.

He said the company has appointed direct sales agents to promote its rural and social products at the district-level branches.

Mr Javeri was in Mangalore to inaugurate the fourth branch of the company in Karnataka. BSLI has two branches in Bangalore and one in Mysore.
