Wipro to set up integrated centre at Bhubaneswar

Prafulla Das

Bhubaneswar , Dec. 22

WIPRO Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Orissa Government for setting up a major software development and BPO services centre at Infocity, a sprawling complex covering 30 acres exclusively developed for IT industries on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The MoU was signed by Mr Tamal Dasgupta, Corporate Vice-President & Chief Information Officer of the company, and Mr A.K. Tripathy, Secretary of the IT Department of the State Government. The Chief Minister, Mr Naveen Patnaik, the IT Minister, Mr Surya Narayan Patra, and the Chief Secretary, Mr Subas Pani, were present.

Work on the first phase of the centre, which would comprise at least one unit with a capacity of 1,000-1,500 people, is expected to start next year and would be completed within two years.

The centre would have supporting infrastructure such as auditorium, training facilities, residential hostels, indoor and outdoor facilities apart from core information and communication technology infrastructure required for various services to be offered.

The State Government has assured necessary infrastructural support and clearances needed for implementation of the project through its single window organisation, the Orissa Computer Application Centre, which is backed by the IT Department.

During the current year, the growth in software exports from Orissa is likely to exceed 40 per cent and touch Rs 500 crore. With the setting up of Wipro facilities and the arrival of other IT majors, Infocity is all set to cross Rs 1,000-crore export mark in IT and related services within the next three years.
