Vijaya Bank plans more city-specific credit cards

VIJAYA Bank has proposed to introduce a series of city-specific credit cards, aimed at providing discounts and other special offers to cardholders at select outlets.

The first of its initiatives was rolled out recently in the East, where the bank launched the `Kolkata card'. Similar cards are expected to be unveiled in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

The Kolkata card can be used at 22 million Visa establishments globally, including one-lakh establishments in India. The card can be used to access cash at over 8.5 lakh Visa ATMs, 6,500 of which are in Indian cities,

A cardholder can also access cash at any Vijaya Bank branch.

. As an initial offer, Kolkata cards will be issued without any entry fee up to March 19, 2005.

The idea is to provide clients with a means to complement their lifestyle, allowing them access to payment convenience and spending power, it is pointed out. The card's features include free weekly transaction details through e-mail, direct debit to Vijaya Bank accounts and cash withdrawal facility for add-on cardholders.

Vijaya Bank has opened its 890th branch at Salt Lake in Kolkata.
