Research & Development Competency centre to hone VLSI skill sets Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Dec. 23 WITH the demand-supply mismatch set to increase for engineers in the VLSI (very large scale integration) design space required for the semiconductor industry, Sun Micro Systems, Cadence, Locuz and Veda IIT have come together to establish a novel Centre of Competency in VLSI engineering here. This is part of their collaborative effort for an industry-academia alliance that seeks to address this area of concern. Addressing a joint press conference, the Executive Director of Cadence for India and SAARC region, Mr Himanshu Singh, said that over 80 per cent of the leading semiconductor companies across the globe have located their research centres in India. "Currently about 6,000 people are employed in this area and projections indicate that this number would double in the next three years. This calls for specialised training both on infrastructure and on various design tools," Mr Singh said.
