AP: Decision on talks with Maoists after a month

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Dec. 23

THE State Government will watch Naxalite activities for a month before deciding when to hold the second round of talks with Maoists.

Following a meeting with the mediators in the talks process on Thursday, the Home Minister, Mr K. Jana Reddy, said that certain violent incidents have marred the talks process and the monitoring committee set up to oversee the situation would review the incidents.

Meanwhile, the Government would exercise restraint in dealing with the Maoists.

Similarly, Mr Reddy said, the Maoists also should exercise restraint and maintain a peaceful atmosphere.

Earlier, the mediators, headed by Mr S.R. Sankaran, met the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and urged him to continue the ceasefire and speed up the talks process between the Government and Maoists.
