People Government - Politics `Architect of liberalisation' Our Bureau
New Delhi , Dec. 23 INDIAN industry has expressed sorrow at the death of former Prime Minister Mr P.V. Narasimha Rao, and has lauded him as an architect of the country's liberalisation process. Expressing grief at the demise of Mr Rao, Mr Sunil Kant Munjal, President, Confederation of Indian Industry, said that Mr Rao had exhibited seminal leadership in changing the economic face of India as Prime Minister. "He had addressed the economic crisis of India in 1991 with courage, determination and total dedication, and launched the country's economic liberalisation programme with Dr Manmohan Singh as Finance Minister," Mr Munjal said. The President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mr Mahendra K. Sanghi, stated that India has lost a statesman and an architect of the liberalisation process, which integrated the country with the global economy. Meanwhile, Mr K.N. Memani, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while expressing his condolence at the demise of the former Prime Minister, said that the country shall always remember Mr Rao as an astute administrator who showed courage and the political will to introduce economic reforms.
