New Projects Bajaj Auto adds Chakan facility into TPM fold Our Bureau
Pune , Dec. 25 CLOSE on the heels of the adoption of the total productive maintenance (TPM) in its facilities at Akurdi and Waluj, Bajaj Auto Ltd has now included its youngest production facility, Chakan also into its fold of TPM. The Japanese Institute of Plant Maintenance has developed the TPM concept for excellence through involvement of all employees of all levels. According to an official release, before kicking off the TPM activity, the Chakan plant had put in one year of committed efforts to be in a position from where it can now go full steam. These included practising TPM in model cells, creating awareness among employees, creating a formal TPM organisation and setting up of expert sub-committees to implement the eight pillars of TPM. Present on the occasion were Mr Sueo Yamaguchi, TPM consultant, and Mr Rajiv Bajaj, Joint Managing Director, business associates and employees. TPM is a concept mastered by the Japanese, improvising on the American concept of preventive maintenance. It aims at establishing a corporate culture that would maximise production system effectiveness throughout its life cycle, eliminate shop floor losses throughout the entire production system achieve zero defects, zero breakdowns and zero accidents. According to Mr Rajiv Bajaj, the TPM policy of Bajaj Auto declares TPM "as a means of creating a safe and participative work environment in which all employees target towards elimination of losses in order to continuously enhance the capacity, flexibility, reliability and capability of its process, leading to higher employee morale and greater organisational profitability."
