Sunset review investigation initiated on anti-dumping duty on sodium nitrite

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , Dec. 25

THE Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry has initiated sunset review investigation on anti-dumping duty imposed on sodium nitrite imported from China.

Deepak Nitrite Ltd (DNL), Pune, had filed an application before the designated authority that substantiated the need for sunset review of anti-dumping duty on sodium nitrite originating in or exported from China.

Informed sources said that the company has requested for the continuation of anti-dumping duty imposed on sodium nitrite from China for a further period of five years.

The Designated Authority had, in November 2000, recommended definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of sodium nitrite from China. The request of DNL for sunset review is based on the grounds that expiry of anti-dumping duty is likely to result in continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury to the domestic industry.

Sodium nitrite is a white crystalline powder mostly used in pharmaceutical industries, dye industries, lubricants, construction chemicals, meat processing and textiles. It is primarily used in dye industries for producing various types of intermediates, pharmaceutical industry for production of analgin, theophylline, and caffeine.
