Electronic goods export to UAE rises 72 per cent

Abu Dhabi , Dec. 27

EXPORT of Indian electronic goods to the UAE during 2003-2004 was estimated at $100 million registering a growth of 72 per cent over the year 2002-03, when the export of electronics goods to UAE was $58.11 million.

Mr Kamal Vachani, Regional Director of Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, ESC, said that the UAE is the top destination for India's Electronics and Computer Software/exports in West Asia.

Export of software and services also registered a growth of 7.11 per cent during the year 2003-04 over the year 2002-03. In total, export of electronics and software to the UAE during the year 2003-04 is estimated to be $149 million up from $102 million in the year 2002-03 registering a growth of 46 per cent.

Mr Vachani further added that with various initiatives taken by the ESC and regional representation, IT exports to this region, particularly to the UAE is going to be increased substantially in the coming years. India's electronics and IT industry during the year 2003-04 estimated at $25.46 billion . Fifty six per cent of India's electronics and IT production was exported to over 182 countries of the world during the year 2003-04.

During the year 2003-04 export of electronics and computer software/services was estimated to be $14.28 billion, which accounts for a share of 15.58 per cent in India's over all exports.
