THE Prime Minster Dr Manmohan Singh will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening as part of his tour of the tsunami-hit areas of south India, says an official press release.
Dr Singh is expected to arrive in the city at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the release says. Soon after his arrival, the Prime Minister will hold discussions with the Kerala Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, and other Government officials on the measures being taken for the welfare of those affected by the tidal waves, the release adds.
On Wednesday morning, the Prime Minister will make an aerial survey of Kollam and Alappuzha districts, which have been very badly hit by the tsunami, the release states.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has convened an all-party meeting to discuss the relief and rescue operations being undertaken in the tsunami-hit coastal districts of the State. The meeting will be held in Thiruvananthapuram at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, says an official press release.
According to official sources, 135 relief camps have been set up across the State. Camps have been established in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kozhikode districts. Over 45,000 people have been accommodated in these relief camps, says an official press release.
