Kochi , Dec. 28

THE business community in Kochi has announced relief measures to those affected by the tsunami that lashed the coastal region in the district on Sunday.

The members of the CII-Kerala have extended support to the relief operations by distributing basic facilities at the various relief camps in and around the city.

CII organised for the distribution of breads from Elite foods, water from Eastern Group and Pepsi Co Ltd, afternoon meals from Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd and ayurvedic medicines from Kerala Ayurvedic Pharmacy.

CII is in constant touch with the district administrators and has extended every possible support for the relief operations, Mr T.R. Raghulal, Chairman, said.

The BPL Mobile has also announced a series of initiatives under the aegis of "hridayathilninnu" (from the heart) to the victims affected by the terror waves.

The company has offered monetary assistance through its employees and subscribers besides offering its network to ensure connectivity and communication support in the affected areas, Mr K.A. Mohammed Saleem, Chief Operating Officer (South), said.

Collection centres have been opened at 200 BPL mobile galleries, channel partner showrooms and select retail outlets in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he added.

The company has already extended communication support and other assistance to the kith and kin of the victims.

The BPL Mobile network continued to remain operational while the call traffic surged on Monday.

The company immediately redistributed the network capacity in the affected areas to ensure congestion free service, Mr G. Sambasivan, COO, Kerala, said.
