Govt seeks list of items with inverted duty structures

THE Government on Tuesday assured domestic industry that it would look at correcting inverted duty structures, including those that have come about on account of the free trade agreements entered into with other countries.

"You must give me a specific list of items that are affected by the inverted duty structure so that I can do something before the ensuing budget," Mr Kamal Nath, Union Commerce and Industry Minister, told members of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) here.

Stating that the Government was keen to play the role of an "enabler," the Minister said the domestic industry would not be disadvantaged on account of FTAs entered into with other countries.

He urged the industry to ensure inclusiveness of the growth process by focusing on labour-intensive industries.
