Banks in Kerala disburse Rs 7,483 cr to priority sector

COMMERCIAL banks in Kerala have disbursed Rs 7,483 crore to the priority sector during the current financial year. This is 46.79 per cent of the disbursement target of Rs 15,995 crore in the current year, says a press release issued after the special review meeting of the State Level Bankers' Committee held here on Monday.

Of the disbursals, Rs 2,524 crore was for the agricultural sector, Rs 1,380 crore for the SSI sector and Rs 3,579 crore for other priority sectors.

The total deposits in the commercial banking system in Kerala as of September 2004 touched Rs 65,683 crore. Of this, NRE deposits accounted for Rs 29,089 crore.

Total advances and investments in approved securities/debentures were Rs 38,633 crore.

The credit-deposit (CD) ratio has touched an all time high of 53.4 per cent, the press release says.
