Donations would also be collected at CII's local headquarters, he said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Gati announced that it would carry relief material free of cost to Port Blair from Chennai.

Mr Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Head (Marketing) of Gati, told Business Line the two ships operated the on the Chennai-Port Blair sector would carry relief material transported by non-governmental organisations.

He, however, said that the free-of-cost feature would not cover Government consignments. "Government cargo would attract regular tariff," he said.

He said the Gati staffers had contributed a day's salary towards relief works.
