Kochi , Dec. 30

AS part of providing technology-driven convenience to its customers, Federal Bank has launched electronic bill payment facility through telephone in association with BSNL in the State.

Fed e-Pay, which has been developed in-house by the bank, is said to be the first of its kind in the country. The new service will enable the bank's customers to pay their bills online and on real time basis.,

The bank's Chairman, Mr K.P. Padmakumar, told presspersons that with the new system the bank has fulfilled the customer's dream of hassle-free telephone bill payment by leveraging the technology infrastructure with the collaboration of BSNL.

The Fed e-Pay integrated system is fully automatic with no manual intervention in customer identification, authentication, presentation, payment and confirmation. It also offers utility bill payments across multiple banking channels such as telephone, cell phone, ATM's, Internet and kiosks.

Using the express option of the system, a customer can call from a pre-registered telephone number to make the bill payments in less than 30 seconds. The system identifies the customer based on caller line identification and reads out the bill amount due for payment.

The system has more flexible options like auto alerts through email/SMS when a bill falls due, option for automatic payments at regular intervals etc. The bank has also plans to include other mobile service providers and utility companies in the Fed e-Pay service in the near future, Mr Padmakumar said.

Mr S.A. Thomas, Chief General Manager, Kerala Circle, BSNL, said that the new facility was initially rolled out with an exclusive arrangement with BSNL Ernakulam SSA and all other BSNL circles would be covered in the coming months. Plans are also on the anvil to introduce payment of all other bills including that of mobile phones.

As the demand for BSNL landlines are on the rise in the State, new technologies to cater to various needs of customers are absolutely essential, he said.
