Kala Ghoda Festival in Mumbai targets wider audience

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Dec. 30

KALA Ghoda Arts Festival, which has entered its seventh year, aims to have a pan-Mumbai reach this year and eventually go on to be the premier arts festival in the country.

"The vision for 2005 and for subsequent years is to target not just South Bombay and the Kala Ghoda area but to have a pan-Mumbai reach where there will be something on offer for people of all age groups and backgrounds," a news release from the Kala Ghoda Association.

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, which brings together various arts, crafts, food and literature, is held during January in Kala Ghoda, an area in South Mumbai where once there was a statue of a horse.

For about 10 days in January, the area around Kala Ghoda comes alive as a street arts and crafts fair with street performers, food stalls and interesting activities for children and adults from all walks of life. It will be a pedestrian zone over the two weekends and evenings of weekdays during the festival.

This time around, there will be a greater emphasis on children's and family activities, music, theatre, dance and film.
