Sugar prices soar

SUGAR prices touched a fresh high on the Vashi wholesale market on Friday due to continued buying from retailers and upcountry dealers.

Sugar small grade (S-30) was up Rs 41 at Rs 1,879/1,923 per quintal over previous day. Medium grade (M-30) was up at Rs 1,900/1,970 per quintal.

Castorseed dips: Castorseed and oil spot prices declined marginally on Friday on some offerings amid weak Gujarat advices. In Rajkot, groundnut oil was steady at Rs 510 for 10 kg.

RBD palmolein was steady at Rs 363 for 10 kg. Castor oil commercial grade was down a rupee at Rs 380 for 10 kg, while castor seed bold was down Rs 5 at Rs 1,750 per quintal.

In futures section, castor seed February contracts settled lower at Rs 1,598 per quintal, down Rs 11 over previous close.
