New Delhi , Dec. 31

THE Group of Ministers (GoM) set up to look into the print media on Friday discussed possible amendments to the Press and Registration of Books (PRB) Act, 1867, and FDI levels in print media.

Chaired by the Home Minister, Mr Shivraj Patil, the Group also discussed the current ceiling on syndicated material in Indian publications. Currently, no Indian publication can have more than 7.5 per cent of international content under automatic clearance.

According to sources the Government wants to put in safeguards against misuse of mastheads besides taking strategic decisions to stop the publication of The International Herald Tribune.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr S Jaipal Reddy, the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, the Law Minister, Mr H.R. Bharadwaj, the Science and Technology Minister, Mr Kapil Sibal and the Communications and IT Minister, Mr Dayanidhi Maran attended the GOM.

The level of FDI in Indian publications, including news publications was also reviewed.
