THE International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) has launched a research project to enhance the production of beta-carotenes in groundnut.

The research is expected to help combat vitamin A deficiency among the poor.

The research is part of the Global Challenge Programme of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research aimed at bio-fortification of crops to combat malnutrition due to deficiency of nutrients such as iron, zinc and vitamin A, according to an Icrisat press release here on Monday.
