NMPT to have `green belt' around the port

THE Chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), Mr P. Tamil Vanan, inaugurated tree-planting programme on the premises of the NMPT administrative office building on Saturday.

A port release said here on Monday that NMPT is all set to have a green belt in and around the port so as to develop a pollution-free environment. In this regard, Mr Vanan, along with the Deputy Chairman, Mr G.J. Rao, union leaders and senior officers, initiated the year-long massive tree plantation programme on Saturday.

The Chairman has sought cooperation from employees, port users and State administration for making this novel venture a success, the release added.
