CORPORATES and business houses in the country are contributing generously towards relief and rehabilitation efforts in tsunami-hit areas.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has contributed Rs 2 crore towards the current relief and rehabilitation operations in Tamil Nadu. HMIL has also committed an on-ground support, for which a team of 45 people has already been dispatched to the affected areas to assist in the actual rehabilitation programme. The team consists of a 30-member medical group.

Jaypee Group and Hexaware Technologies have contributed Rs 1 crore each to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. "As part of our social responsibility, all the employees of the group are contributing their one day's salary towards the relief efforts," a statement issued by Jaiprakash Associates Ltd said.

JCB India Ltd, which manufactures construction equipment, said it would donate 15 machines to assist in the clearing-up operations in Chennai, Andaman and Nicobar islands, and in Sri Lanka. "Machines will also be provided from JCB's operation in Singapore for Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand," a company statement said.
