Software `Wipro, HCL seek land for centres in Uttar Pradesh' Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 4 THE competition among various states to attract IT investments seems to be hotting up, with the Samajwadi Party leader and Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Development Council, Mr Amar Singh, on Tuesday claiming that Uttar Pradesh was outshining other cities in wooing major IT players such as Wipro. "Wipro Chief Mr Azim Premji had earlier sought 40 acres of land at Greater Noida. The payment has already been made, and he has now approached us for an additional 100 acres of land at Greater Noida. This goes to show the strength of our new IT policy," Mr Singh said while inaugurating IT company Xansa's new facility at Noida. Mr Singh said HCL has also approached the Uttar Pradesh government for additional land, and hoped that others such as Infosys will follow suit. "Mr Nandan Nilekani (MD and CEO of Infosys) has played a significant role in helping the State formulate its IT vision", he added.
