Events Jute fair inaugurated at Visakhapatnam Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam , Jan. 5 JUTE bags and other diversified products should be preferred to synthetic ones, as they are economical and eco-friendly, Mr Peeyush Kumar, Joint Collector, Visakhapatnam, has said. He was speaking after inaugurating a week-long jute fair, organised by the Jute Products Development Council, on Wednesday. The fair would be open to the public till January 11 from 10.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Prahlada Kalyana Mandapam. Mr B. Narasimhulu, marketing officer of the council, said such exhibitions were being held all over the country to promote jute-diversified products. A vast range of jute products floor decor, wall decor, fashion bags, shopping bags and home textiles would be on display and sale at the exhibition at reduced prices, he said. He said several promotional activities had been taken up by the council during 2004 such as the technical seminar on jute geo-textiles in Ahmedabad in June, Orissa festival in Kolkata in the same month, Giftex - 2004 in Mumbai during August, Conventions India in New Delhi in the same month, jute fair in Kochi also in August, another jute fair in Nagapur in September and heritage festival in Sri Nagar. ``This year we are holding the jute fair here first and we are sure of a good response from the public. The north-coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizinagaram and Srikakulam are the main mesta producing centres and several jute mills are situated in these parts,'' he said. There are 78 major composite jute mills in the country, 61 of them in West Bengal, seven in Andhra Pradesh, three in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and one each in Assam, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Tripura. Besides these, there 10 major EOUs in the sector, he added.
